Some sps bleaching (1 Viewer)

My tank seems to not be able to handle slimers. I got green and purple from reeftopia. The way the green one was shaped, I had to cut it in 2 so that I could get it glued down right.

A green birds nest decided to STN over the course of a week. After it was done, the slimers started, but I fragged the dying parts off. I am now left with a single green slimer frag that is bleached, but still feeding, a bleached red montipora digi, and a, what I assume is bleached, purple slimer. I have been feeding them the red Sea stuff that came with my salt. A and B.

I think it is either lighting, too much or too little. Alternatively, it could be nutrients too low for my alk

My targets are 420 for calcium, high 9s for alk, and mag 1350.

My salifert test kits might have me off now. My system is virtually fish less.

I only have test kits for phosphates, ca, kh, and mg. My phosphates have been zero the whole time on the salifert kit.

The zoas and stuff are growing fine and the acros seem to be doing fine. It is strange to see the stuff I thought more hardy struggling. If anyone nearby has a full range of test kits, let me know. I would like to compare it to my current set, and compare nitrates.

My salifert kit might start off blue and say to look for pink or gray, but I will get a color not even mentioned in the middle. Looking for pink or red I might get purple first. I am not sure where it changes.

Take your water somewhere and have it tested. Orange digi almost impossible to kill.

I think it was a pH shift some time ago, and too little flow. My calcium has spiked lately, but I have not had much else change. My calcium was like 490 last I checked. Alk was high 9s, and mag was unchecked. It should be 1300 to 1350. Phosphates showed zero

After seeing the tank today I'd suggest either reducing the intensity or photo period of the light. I'd even try moving them up some. With a shallow thank like that it doesn't take much light to penetrate the water.

Those lights have no optics. I made that wood thing to get it higher. I need to resolder a couple bulbs and see what it looks like on top

It is the one I got from you. I think aptasia attacked it. I have no idea whats up with it. I just resoldered the light and raised it up some. I got the optics on it again. It is now at about 1' above water. With no optics and that high it looked really dim. Now it looks normal. We will see how it goes.

I was not to worried about the calcium being that high. It didnt all happen at once. I am fine letting it slowly fall naturally. I hawk all over alk tho. It stays in the 9s. My mag dipped down to 1100 because I had to order more magnesium chloride. I raised it back up to 1300ish over a few days. I would pretty much write off the green slimer tho. The purple one maintained all of its blue color, and lost all the purple. It looks ice blue. I am thinking I should call it the LE game of thrones white walker acro and put the thing on ebay with a starting bid of 600$. lol

I also meant to add that my photo period is from about 4:30 to 11:30. I put the optics back on as I mentioned and it is now on top of the wooden frame I made for the canopy. I will try to take readings with the par meter tomorrow.

Back to your No3 the salifert kit , should not be blue are grey , should go from clear to one of the shades of pink if it turns purple ether something is wrong with the kit are No3 is thru the roof. JMO, I use the salifert No3 kit and the Red Sea kit have never seen any other colors but clear to pink.

I thought I mentioned phosphates are zero. The kit has never changed color. I was referring to the alk and calcium kits. I forget which one. My bad if I misworded it.

I think I mentioned I have never tested nitrates. I should not have any. Almost no bio load for a year
