Hey guys need some advice. I just recently started testing my water and bought some salifert test kits. The problem I’m running into is i keep getting a reading above 500 on the calcium. I never get a color change. Is there a high range test kit? Im using IO reef crystal salt.
Alk 8.6
Mag. 1440
Temp 77
Salinity 1.026
Calc above 500?
That’s all I currently am testing. Corals seem fine. No dosing. Also if it matters this is the new 2 part salifert calc kit. I thought there use to be 3 bottles in the kit. Guess it changed.

Yes, the Salifert calc kit did use to have three bottles. As much as I didn't like the second one, I kind of miss it now, because using the same reagent to go from one color to another and then back again just doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling.

I had the same result when testing my tank that has no corals, just anemones, so probably has little calc usage. I also use Reef Crystals.

If you're really concerned, you might try borrowing a different test kit, or send a sample for ICP testing, but it may be that your water changes are keeping up with the calcium usage.

Thanks for the reply frank. I’m going to test again before I do my water change to see what I get. I do have a few LPS in my tank. I tested right after a water change so I’m assuming the IO reef crystal is a little hot on the calcium this batch.
