Just got a 120g with dual overflows and was wondering if anyone has modified a dual overflow to be a Beananimal? Would it work well or am i forgetting something? I also have a RR 180g that has a back piece of glass that needs to be replaced and was wondering if it would be worth it to set it up as a Beananimal? Also who would you recommend to replace glass? Thanks in advance.

This is the 120g type.

The problem with trying to do a bean (or a herbie) in a dual overflow system is keeping enough flow going through both overflows. Whichever overflow has the main siphon is typically fine, it's the other that has such low flow that it can get stagnant. You can do it, it will just take a lot of tinkering. I would be more inclined to try a herbie (siphon and durso - no emergency siphon) in each and then restricting the flow out of both siphons so both drain approximately the same amount. Lot's of plumbing under the stand with this option and don't forget the gate valves (dont use ball valves). You would then need to bring the return up and over the back.

Or, just use maggie mufflers and call it a day. You won't have the silent bubble free tank/sump of a bean but it will be much easier than trying to balance those two overflows.

In regards to the 180 - I have no idea who repairs glass. If you have the opportunity to run a system with the bean you'd be crazy not to. After running a bean, every tank I have from here on out will have one.

you'll have to merge the 2 drains together, and use one of the side's return as an emergency drain. Your return will only be on one side if you do it to this tank. If you're in the galleria area, you can drop by and check out my tank.
