Heck with things from here on in I am reasurching what I can and going with my gut. I have killed 2 poor fish my gut told me to bring the ph down long ago. And 8.2 to 7.4 is just not happy enough going to take a sample in to be tested today and see if I am reading things wrong. But I wish the colors where more obvious on the numbers. Maybe I am part color blind beginning to wonder.

Do not know what to do but I believe I never want to start with any tap water again for the rest of my life. Too many chemicals in our water not to mention antibiotics and such.

The question is what minerals and such to put back in and how to get them from safe sources. Another ball of wax. I miss our old well water when we first moved here. They did something a couple of years after moving here. My tanks went from perfect here to a couple of years later all kinds of problems.

Sorry to hear that you lost two of them. Freshwater does not have anywhere near the specific parameters that salt does. When I ran freshwater I would fill 80% of the tank with RO water then the remaining purified spring water like Ozarka or something like that. I found that this added enough of the other minerals like calcium and such that the fw fish and snails need. I never had to dose with anything once the tank was established. Just cleaned the sand bed once a month and would top off with spring or RO water.

Don't beat yourself up about it. I had a couple crashes over the years, once was due to a fish that died that I didn't know about since I was away for a week. Took out all but my Albino Cory. The second time was a result of a heater malfunction and baked my tank again killing everything except yet again that same Albino Cory. That little guy was a tank... Had him for 5 years. He survived tank crashes, multiple tank moves, redesigns and even survived for at least 30 out of the tank when he jumped out when I had the lid off for cleaning.

Might sound crazy but the garlic seems to have done more good than anything! They are at least eating! Will see how things look in a day or 2.

    Should have known "Russian Penicillin"

Garlic is a wonderful trick to spur the appetite of reluctant feeders. You only want to use it a few times as long term it's not ideal for fish. One thing I also did for my FW tanks s feed them frozen bloodworms. I would take a cube and thaw that out in a micro screen tea filter and use a chopstick to feed them with it. I'd wiggle a few worms at a time right at the surface and they would go nuts for them.

Yea I still had blood worms from my old tank in the freezer that where not expired yet. Also have brine shrimp frozen will tetras eat that?

I have had to give them blood worms every other day since getting them they didn't seem to like or want the flake food.

Should I take the garlic out?

I really don't know what to do any more for the ick? ANY suggestions?

I had bought a deal of marineland but after reading the ingredients and looking them up there are comments about it causing cancer. Last thing I want to do is give that to my fish or water. Any ideas what else to try. I have in there 1 ocat left alive 4 orange glowlight tetras (ones with a orange stripe instead of blue or red) snails I don't want though I did get an assian snail but I don't think that one can eat enough snails fast enough.

I do also have a lot of plants I am trying to keep alive. And though I thought it wouldn't be a big deal apparently I could cause problems if I set up another tank because I haven't got my other one going and I had said that I was only using this one to get plants growing. To be honest don't know where I could stick another one anyhow. Not enough room on the stand that I got from someone on here (thanks so much again!) it hides stuff under so nice! Plus the Ocat would need the plant for food they have so much algae I wouldn't want to limit him to just the glass.

Question... In dealing with freshwater ich???

Okay if I move all the fish to a smaller tank and treat them there will the ich die off after so long or does it stay dormant?

Also can snails keep ich alive?

My understanding is they only have so many days to live hatch and find a host so if fish are out of tank till cured and a month extra or whatever will that do it or will the snails and plants keep it alive?

I can't bring the temperature over 82 because at 84 the type of plants I have some of them started dying.

If I move them I could use salt and raise the temperature.

Some changes on the tank. Last picture is my little friend I have found I do not like staring at pond or bladder snails or whatever that had taken over. This little guy eats them!

I sure hope you guys are hanging in there and things are getting a little back to normal.

Going to change the filter over to a HMF as soon as I can. I know it won't be as pretty but I think it will be more natural and better for all the inhabitants! There are a lot of plants in there they are just squished together because I need 4 inches of space on the left side.

Speaking of which anyone know of an easy way to get insulated glass seperated?
