How to catch a Blue Tang

We have a 150 gal tank and a blue tang that appears to have black spot disease / worms on its skin. We were going to do a freshwater dip on it, but we simple can't catch it. It hides under rocks and we can't get it. We've tried leaving the nets in the tank, catching it while feeding it, etc, but nothing is working. I've read about traps but I'm not sure if they're worth trying or even available at local stores. Any tips?

Your not catching fish in my tank without a trap only way to go. and you have to do it while he is still eating.

fish trap is your best bet. I have a large one but you can buy them for about $40. Otherwise, you may have to section off part of your tank with egg crate to make the space smaller. Either way, sounds like he needs to be caught and medicated.

OK, will give the trap a try. Hopefully I can find one around town. We've tried for hours to catch it and it disappears every time we approach the tank.

I was hoping there was some product where we could medicate the entire tank, but I don't know if that's an option either.

How new is the tank? Is it "fish only" or do you have coral? Do you have a clean up crew like snails? Prazipro by Hikari might work for external flukes/worms, but I also will kill snails and, feather dusters, and other beneficial worm like critters in your tank if you have them. Since I can't see him, I can't help you diagnose. Still better to catch him if you can.

I went by FJW today and bought the fish trap. (Great selection of corals there and the owner was very helpful!) Every fish in the tank has ventured into the trap EXCEPT the tang. The the meantime the owner of FJW recommended some medicated food to give the fish and a chemical to dose the tank (don't remember the name right now). We'll see how this goes.
