    Hello! I'm new...

    Hello All!

After some contemplation and then a few weeks of researching online, at an LFS, and at pet supply stores, I have decided to take the leap into the hobby. The closest I've gotten to this before is a couple of betta fish and an aquatic frog in high school, so I am nervous... but I'm going to try my best to be successful with my little tank. MARSH is one forum that has been especially helpful due to its members' location (Houston area), so I decided to register and introduce myself. I will probably register with one or two more forums and use the same username (just in case you "see" me elsewhere).

My initial supplies are on the way (to get started I will have to tackle BRS dry Pukani rock).

Thank you for the valuable information you contribute!

    Hey there.

    Welcome into the reefer world.
Lots to learn and forums are a great place to that.
We will see you around and you will find my name on a few as well.
Glad to have even for a lot right now it's a difficult time due to losses of complete systems from the flood.
I don't regret the things I did wrong............ I regret the good things I did for the wrong people.

Welcome! I'm looking for that big "welcome" smiley but I can't find it. Anyway, I always recommend to people to join a local club when you enter the hobby. It's the chance to meet people first hand and remove the doubt of advice on the internet. I'm down to talk shop over a beer anytime, just let me know.

Oh, you are all so nice! Thank you for the welcome.

Diesel, I must admit I feel a bit guilty starting a tank when I know many lost theirs. Not sure what one has to do with the other, but I am just sympathetic, I suppose.

Luman01, I am hesitant to say my tank size. I chose it for a variety of reasons, mostly practical. But I know it's frowned upon.

Don't feel that way, never ever.
Many Hobbyist were able to help out by donating corals or holding livestock as their tanks were lucky that they made it through.
In 2008 when Ike hit it was worse on the loses as we had to deal with the damaging wind and ppl were knocked out on power for weeks.
With no back up power your tank is cooked after 24 hrs.
Read up how to be successful in this hobby and it ain't just your weekly water change.
I don't regret the things I did wrong............ I regret the good things I did for the wrong people.
