Newbie Frag Question
I have a newbie question related to coral frags. I bought a 10 pack of corals from Jamal at Reef Currents. They have all done really well and I seen new polyps on all my zoas except 1 that I think is just dying. However, I bought a few acans and I am not sure what the proper procedure is for those. They've just been sitting in the sand bed, eating well, but not really growing. So... that leads me to my newb question....
All the acans that I got are built up pretty tall on a skeleton structure. There isn't anywhere for them to grow right now other than down the face of a sharp cliff of skeleton. Do most people remove all of that and just have a thin layer of acan when they bring the frag home or should I leave it like it is? Thanks!

You can cut the stem off the frag plug and glue the disk to a rock. I left mine on the plug on the sand bed. They kind of grow into a ball.

I would not expect to see much growth from an acan since reef currents.

This. If you are seeing growth now, you need to tell everyone your secret.

I've had mine for a few months now , the only difference I have notice is the polyp extension is bigger or more protruding

does anyone feed theirs? I don't have any in my frag tank but used to have some in my sons bow front when it was setup.. I fed them fish food pellets..2-3 times a week.. seemed to really help with growth...

It takes time. With good parameters I would say I get about one polyp per month. The caviar is it takes a couple of months and then you will see several polyps at a time.
