I sure do like the looks of the SynergyReef products!

Nice! That was my original plan- to keep my Synergy reef ATO next to the sump because they’re both 15” tall and match. It would have been seamless. After deciding on the raceways to hide the wiring under the stand, that plan kinda went out the window (not enough room). So I’ll likely get another ATO that will be housed next to the stand.

So how do filter cups work to replace socks? I havenít seen one in action yet.

It is a nice sump. It's the older version so it's all clear and unfortunately a lot of light splash from the fuge causes algae growth in the skimmer. The current models have white acrylic panels between the skimmer and pump sections. As for the cup, the sump currently takes a 4" filter sock. My thought was to replace the sock with a cup similar to the Red Sea one https://www.redseafish.com/hardware/filter-media-cup/ With this you can either load it with rubble, ceramic media, or filter floss kind of like the Rotter Tube setup. If you add filter floss to the cup you would just pull the old stuff out and toss it and add new floss. My plan was to fill it with rubble and then place filter floss (blue/white media) in the bubble trap after the fuge. I made a mini stand out of light diffuser for the bubble trap and put a large coarse foam block there to trap macro algae as well as micro bubbles etc. With the floss pad there it makes replacing it much simpler than replacing the filter sock out every 2-3 days.

I’m new to the filter cups, but they sound like they’d work. Probably have pros and cons like filter socks.

I’d rather have socks personally so I can dose LaCI into the socks if needed. Plus, I know you can get a lot of different micron sizes. With floss, you may be limited. Maybe somebody can answer that question.

As far as rubble, I’d just stick it in an eggcrate basket, then use the cups for strictly floss. :-)
