Yeah, it does a great job scrubbing the particles from the water. I'm just too lazy.

The first few days of running it I was having to change the filter sock every day as they were getting loaded up, and the skimmer was pulling all sorts of very dark skimmate out and I'd have to empty the collection cup twice a day.
It has settled way down now but the water is still nearly crystal clear with the UV. This little unit has done such an amazing job, I am seriously thinking about getting a higher wattage unit and hook it up to my manifold.

For the last 2 years I switched over to ď5-10 micron felt filter socksĒ to run Lanthanum Chloride.

After dripping into these socks I noticed my water would be crystal clear in the morning. No really...crystal clear!

Iíve heard that Lanthanum can have that affect on water, but this was not the cause.

I started dripping into my overflow without a sock in the sump because all my socks were dirty and the PO4 was 0.5 -0.8. I wanted to get it down quick and since I didnít really have a lot of fish that were expensive... I figured Iíd gamble without the socks and take a chance with the flocculant killing my fish.

To my surprise, nothing happened to the fish, but I did notice something that had me baffled. The water wasnít clear this time. I thought...well thatís weird.

A few days later I dosed into a 10 micron sock again and boom...the water was crystal clear that morning. Iím telling you, I can run 2 cups of BRS ROX 0.8 or ROWA on a 25/G water volume and canít achive the same clarity as I can with these ď5-10 micron felt socks.Ē

So if you want pristine polished crystal clear water, try it out for yourself. :-)

I drop 1.5ml straight in the sump every week...no ill effect on fish or corals. And don't forget how well the skimmer works with Lanthanum Chloride.

It it amazes me how clear they get the water. They work better than carbon!

I agree, very easy way to maintain low PO4 levels. As long as you go slow, it won’t hurt anything.

Maybe I should invest in one! What kind should I get for the new tank?

Can't go wrong with AquaUV or Pentair (formerly Emperor Aquatics).
