    Angry Leaks! Oh no!

    Hello everyone!

I recently purchased a used aquarium and after about a week in storage it has gaps forming in the silicone. Today I noticed the whole seam is completely failed and there are several tunnels in the silicone. The front panel of the tank is the issue and needs to be dissasembled and reattached. Does ya’ll know someone who does a good job? I cant risk flooding our new house... Should I get a new tank or would it be worth the expense to reseal?

    Thanks,

I've seen this guy post on FB about resealing aquariums:

No experience with him though, but I see him posting a lot and no one is trashing him at least.

personally, if you gonna bust it apart and do the seam over then i would do all the seams, not just that one. but if your gonna have to hire someone to do all that for you then i would just go out and buy a new tank and not have to worry.

It's a tough call Matyas. I know you saved and worked hard for a new tank and you were super excited to go pick it up with your mom. Thankfully you discovered this before you actually set the tank up. Seeing as it's a used tank and all the hard work you put into working and saving for it, I would recommend you have all the seals done, not just the front. I'd offer to do it for you, but I've never done one over 40 gallons. There are some folks on FB. You could also call around to a few LFS and see who they recommend, but the guy that was referenced above is a good place to start. Most reseals will run you around $1.50/gl.

How bigs your tank? I wouldn't trust reseals. I was sold a reseal and after doing more research on it I wouldn't trust someone resealing besides the manufacturer. If your tank bust there not going to warrant your damages. I ended up doing a trade luckily someone wanted it as a project.

The tank is a 65 I think John. Yeah I was unsure about sealing but if they will reseal they would have to take apart the whole tank, and then reassemble. I am unsure how trustworthy a new seam is...

Man I hate to hear that. I’d be a little worried trusting somebody to do that. It’s A LOT of work. I mean A LOT of work. People advertising to do that are mostly unqualified and figured they’d do it for some extra income since they had success rebuilding a 20/G.

If I were you, I wouldn’t take that chance. I know you worked hard and saved up your money, but it’s not worth flooding your mothers living room. I’d keep a close eye on Craigslist for a nice deal. You can get 40 to 200 gallon tanks all day for $100 if you just keep watching for that deal. Just get a standard tank and we’ll help you drill it. Good luck to you!

Ok thanks so much everyone! I decided that it is not worth the damage. I will try to find a good tank on craiglist and hopefully lightning wont strike twice. Is there any secret to finding a tank without leaks?
