Oh wow! I had pretty high confidence I had it in the bag when I was in the competition only against myself but then all these amazing photos popped up afterwards and blew my mind! I can't believe I won against all those spectacular photos! The competition was tough! Kudos to all the other finalists... I'm sure the race was very tight!

What a wonderful accessory hobby photography is to reef keeping. I hope others are inspired by the photos posted and try their hand at some photos of their tanks and its inhabitants as well.

I just want to say thanks to all that voted overall. Participation in the club and its events are the backbone to building a strong reefing community and we have a great one here in Houston... So great you even welcome Austinites. Photo Contest Winner

In the spirit of competition and also community, I plan to offer up the Avast Marine porthole to one of my fellow finalists who doesn't have one yet as I have one already. Dragon99 and FrankC both have front shots as their photo submittal... If either of you doesn't have a look-down tube for pictures, please PM me. This also goes for the other finalists as well just in case I assumed incorrectly about the top down tube. PM me and we'll sort it out. If there is more than one of you, I'll use a random number generator to chose the winner of the look down tube! Photo Contest Winner

Thank you all, thank you Marsh, and thank you to the Marsh BODs for all the hard work you do to make this an awesome place for all to enjoy.

    -Ty

Congrats! The other pictures were so good I didn't even vote for my own

I do have a tube though, thanks for the offer Ty, that's super generous.

Congratulations Ty! It is a beautiful photo. I wish I could take photos of my tank that looked even remotely this good.

I'd love to see a HD version of it.

Thanks a bunch! I only picked up a DSLR this Spring with no prior experience so I think its something almost everyone can learn pretty rapidly and add even more enjoyment to the hobby. Just skip a big frag purchase and put it towards a used DSLR. Just using Adobe Lightroom and shooting in RAW format does like 70% of the work for a nice photo in my opinion. When I realized that, it made all the difference in the world.

That HD file is huge! I wonder what's the best way to share it on Marsh.

As long as I have had DSLRs, I still have never gotten around to learning how to shoot RAW and do any serious post-processing. I think part of it is, as a computer programmer for a living, learning and working with a new software package seems too much like work to me.

I got my first DSLR, a Nikon D100, back in 2002. It was the first "affordable" DSLR at 2K for the body only. I upgraded to my current D7000 in 2011, which was much less money and way more features.

Thank you for your generous offer with the porthole.
