Exactly. I’m gonna keep it fairly simple this time around.

But I’m kinda like chrfrancis. It’s hard for me not to buy all the new stuff.

One thing I really liked was my doser and Apex. Skimmers are great, but annoying!

Since installing my custom lifereef skimmer, I must say that besides the venturi hanging out over my sump, this is the best skimmer I've ever owned. So easy to dial in.

Glad to hear that. Just about everybody that’s got one raves about them. I’ll have to try one soon. I haven’t heard one bad thing yet.

New Product Alert – Reef Kinetics’ Reef Bot

    By Afishionado 3 months ago

Home / Equipment / New Product Alert – Reef Kinetics’ Reef Bot
Since MACNA 2016, I have been keeping my eye on a product called Reef Bots, made by Reef Kinetics. What caught my attention is the constant testing that it does for us hobbyists, so that we don’t have to test manually, and that it makes adjustments according to the levels that are provided by the machine. The whole design had changed when I saw them again at MACNA 2018 in New Orleans. They ditched the octopus wire design (I wasn’t a fan of that) and replaced it with a sleek computer-like aluminum casing which encases everything to make this a true plug and play unit.I met up with Rabih Krayem who explained everything about the unit here in this video. All the test results are automatically logged via multi platform app and you can test up to 8 elements or nutrient levels.

I have kept in touch with them, and I am excited to say that they are FINALLY ready to launch and the retail product will be unveiled at Reef A Palooza Orlando 2018 which will be happening this weekend! If you are coming to the show, be sure to check them out. I am looking forward to automating my tests so that I don’t have to do all of the tests by hand, I can eliminate the user errors to get more accurate tests, and I can have them all right at my finger tips. Be sure to check them out in Coralvue booth #303 at Reef A Palooza Orlando.

The reef bot looks cool, but the machine itself is huge. Great if you have a fish room, not sure where I'd keep it in my office...

A computer that makes changes based on its test results could be a blessing or a tank crash!

I’d love to take advantage of that simplicity on my busier days, but it almost takes the challenge/fun away from reefing. We’d all have computer based aquariums that look amazing. Lol. Nothing to distinguish one tank from another.

Even unintelligent people would have amazing SPS reefs.

Do unintelligent people not deserve an amazing SPS tank? Must have Reef items 2018?Must have Reef items 2018?Must have Reef items 2018?

Joking aside, I do get what you're saying. I worked hard to learn the science behind the hobby, how to keep parameters stable, best practices when things fail, how to keep a schedule of maintenance so you don't get caught unprepared when something eventually fails... And pretty soon someone will be able to plug and play an amazing reef tank and it'll take care of itself.

While a part of me feels the hours I put in learning the hobby may mean less when everybody is doing it mostly automated, I just like to think that the journey to get here was worth every minute I put into it.

And now that I've made that journey myself... I'm okay handing some of the controls over to my Apex, alkatronic, reactors, and calcium reactor and sit back and just enjoy the tank with my fellow reef buddies, those that are old school and also the new ones that dig the technology side of it and embrace its simplicity.

One thing that would be nice is computer based fish QT system...

The system will use “Ultra HD” camera’s that are able to identify parasites based on visual signs/symptoms and behaviors. The system will easily catch and scope any fish to confirm, diagnose, and treat.

Ohh and don’t worry...these units will all have a “built in” pharmacy loaded with all nessessary medications to treat any marine parasite or infection.

Would you guys like me to go ahead and launch this thing now or launch at Macna 2019?

BRB...I just heard my 2,000/G automated SPS mega reef doing the “maintenance routine” I’ll go stand by to watch.
