    Identify Tank Hitchhiker?

    We just had a critter pop out of our live rock this evening which I can't identify. It looked like a light purple slug. It stuck its head out of the rock and was blowing what looked like spores into the water. I snapped a pic (which I can't seem to upload here) then tried to catch it with tongs but it retreated into the rock. Any idea what it is?

    It's possible that what you thought was the head of something was the other end of a bristle worm. I had them spawn in my tank, and all I saw was a little white cloud coming out of one rock, then another, then finally got a glimpse of the tip of a worm sticking out.

    I have seen bristle worms in the tank, but they were tan in color and long. This was more slug-like and lavender in color. Maybe it's a snail or slug of some type?

    Probably is a slug then - that's the only thing I can think of that would move and be that color.

    It's probably harmless. As your tank matures, you will start to see all kinds of interesting creatures develop.
