    Let It Grow Campaign

    MARSH "Let It Grow"

This campaign is very simple. Any MARSHian (Supporting or Guest) can participate in this challenge. We have many folks who have very wet thumbs. Their corals grow very fast and they find themselves fragging quite a bit. Sometimes so much so that they can’t even give the frags away! We are simply asking for you to choose one coral in your tank and just “Let it Grow”. Don’t do any fragging or trimming for the next 6 MONTHS! At the end of the 6 months, you will frag your coral. When it gets closer to the summer, we will coordinate a day and time with Ryan (Moody Gardens Coral Guy) for everyone who participated to head down to Moody Gardens for a “Turn Over” event. You will get to see where your corals will go, observe the intake process, qt process, ask questions and check out the 3 tanks where corals will be housed; the Coral Exhibit, the Coral Garden, and the holding area.

There are a few requests for participants. These will be very helpful for Ryan and the Moody crew as they prepare to receive your coral.

1 - Make a post in this thread with your name and your coral (a picture would also be great!)
2 – Commit to posting bi weekly pictures
3 – Post biweekly parameters. This will help Ryan to familiarize himself with the individual husbandry of each coral as they prepare for intake.

Do you want to participate, but aren’t sure which coral to choose? Ryan has provided us with a “wish list” to let us know what they would like to see as well as a time frame when they anticipate being ready for donations should anyone want to donate before the end of the 6 months. Donations are always welcome, anytime!

    Hi everyone,

I see that my name is getting posted a bit so I thought I would formally introduce myself. My name is Ryan Hannum and I'm the coral biologist at the aquarium at Moody Gardens. Just a little bit of a background about myself, I've been working at Moody Gardens for two years now leading up the coral program here. Before that I've cared for other reef tanks at other facilities and helped private parties with there tanks as well, one of my favorite being a 600 gallon reef exhibit that had been running for over 10 years! I've built a couple grow-out tanks ranging from 30 gallons to 400 gallons and as you all can guess by now have played a part in designing and building our new 2000 gallon reef exhibit. It's been a long challenge planning this exhibit through our complete renovation and we've had a few hiccups along the way to be sure but we are going strong and we're ready to start on this exciting next step with all the MARSHians out there!

I look forward to getting to know everyone who participates in the events to come as well as those who just want to help in any way they can and even to those who just want to chat. I am happy to help in any way that I can as a resource to you as you are all stepping up to help us out and I hope this newfound partnership will extend on long after the conclusion of the event.

If you have any questions, comments, or just want to say hi feel free to send a message, I will be on regularly to check things out (also to read up on some of these informative threads).

    Cheers!
