Par38 grow light, anybody?
I've restarted my fuge. I was looking at a small led grow light but I'm afraid the par might not be enough.
I want to use a par38 grow light. Reds and blues.
Is anybody using one?

I'm running a PAR38 type bulb from Home Depot. Works great.
The CFL 100w bulbs grow chaeto quicker, though. (Not actually 100w... they are like 23w, or something).

Would the bigger leds in the par38 penetrate further than the smaller leds in the flat one?
How about this it's 45 watts

Or its one 36 watts

Is it a grow light par38 or the one with white lights as well?

White lights as well. The key is to put it right on top of the waterline. If you run two, you can have them a little higher.

I doesn't really take that much to do chaeto or calerpa prolifora. The other algae types are pretty undesirable. They will find a way to start in your main tank and you will never really get rid of it. Feather calerpa and grape are probably the worst algae types to get rid of when they invade your system. It's like having mojanos

Thanks. I need to look into that and see if there is a way to stop it.

Keep the lights on 24/7. If your power ever goes out, your algae might go sexual. It is not worth the trouble.

Um, this is a family forum.
Seriously, so darkness causes culerpa to reproduce or send out seeds? So 12 on, 12 off is not recommended?

You light algae for 16 hours, typically.
