WooHoo! New year 60gl upgrade project

Decided to upgrade my 42gl funky shape aquarium a while ago. Was waiting for a deal and the hubby's green light.

Came across a fixer-upper for a decent price ($65!) a few weeks ago and decided to go with it!

    My current set up....

From this I will transferring/re-using the light, heater, mp10's, LR, corals and fish, and 25% of the water. Will be adding another PH and upgrading my current doser.

The new tank will need to be re-plumbed. I also plan to remove the black paint. Was considering doing a custom foam rock wall with instructions I found on a thread on r2r...

The glass itself is in good shape, no visible scratches. But needs a good vinegar bath and cleaning.

Then there is the stand and canopy.

I plan to sand down the stand and re-skin. The inside will also be sanded, painted, and sealed to accommodate a new sump, skimmer, reactor and uv bar. The canopy is in pieces and will need to also be sanded and re-inforced to handle a mounted reef breeder led light. I havent decided yet if Im going to re-sand and stain or do something fun like what we did in our laundry room....(example)
So wish me luck! Im not a plumber and Im not a carpenter, so no telling how this will turn out lol!

Nice! That foam rockwall would be perfect with that return plumbing. Should hide everything nicely.

    Progress update on the stand...

I decided to use reclaimed wood for the stand upgrade. After we removed the warped bottom and shelf as well as the entire skin, we added a 20" extension to allow for a larger sump. The extension will only have a height of 28" so it will look more like a side table. We are going to hinge the top for access to where the fuge will be. Will have doors on the front, and tank side.

We decided to keep in theme with the other wood eliments of the house by using reclaimed wood. So we have been collecting pallets...then sanding, painting, sanding again, and staining each individual board (yes...very time consuming!) And will do the same thing with the canopy..once thats done I will start on the plumbing.

I do have to give kudo's to the hubby. Im just handling the boards, he is doing the hard work of measuring, cutting, etc. So far its been a great project for us to do together!
