    The Famous Walt Disney Acropora

I have just received a small frag of Acropora Tenious. The exact specimen is from what the reef keeping community knows as Walt Disney Acro. I am not doing to go in to detail about where it came from- most of you already know- other than it came from a very generous and reputable source. There is no doubt it is the original. I am using the name it was given. I have no intention of ever selling even a single polyp of this coral and hens have no commercial interest. It will either die in my tank or will be given away at some point. Don't ask. If anyone with a legal right to the name has any objections, please contact me and I will take the proper course of action.

I have spent numerous hours researching the care and requirements for this specific coral. I have discovered that there is much controversy surrounding this coral and I don't want any of that here. It is a coral that has fetched very high dollar amounts for very small frags. I don't care. It is its spectacular color that I will likely never achieve that I am after. I know many believe it is photo-shopped. Again, I don't care if it was or wasn't.

The purpose of this thread is to chronicle the life of this well known and well sought after coral from the time it entered my tank.

I currently have it under 250watt 14k Phoenix MH with cheep Odyssea t5 actinic supplementation. I will be upgrading the T5 bulbs ASAP and hope to have a custom LED strip to replace the T5 soon. Parameters are Phosphate .02, Alk. 8.4, Cal, 420, Mag. 1400.

In the first Photo I took, The coral is positioned 14" from the surface of the water. The MH is about 8" above the surface.

    Red Sea.

I don't think I have seen a progression thread on Marsh. That is why I wanted to start one. I'm shooting for no drama and a clean informative discussion on this specific coral and what I can do to improve its color, growth, and maintain it's health.

As far as fragging it, I will frag eventually. I want one in another tank in case I have a crash. I would give a select few away following the reefer's PIF code. I just refuse to sell this out of respect for it's value and where it came from. I am lucky to own it.

Good luck Chris! I'm anxious to see how this coral turns out. I got to see a couple pieces from the original a couple months back. It really is a beautiful coral. I'll keep my comments on pics of the coral to myself but its definitely beautiful in person.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT frag this guy until it has fully encrusted on the plug and is securing itself to the rock around it. Make sure it is happy and thriving in the spot you put it so the frags have the best chance of survival they can.

That was my full intention. I have it on a little pedestal I made for it. Ill take a picture of it tonight. I took water weld, stuck it to a piece of rubble rock, and formed it into a perfect little plug holder. I can remove the plug with frag attached if necessary and move the small rock as well. It is completely stable on a relatively flat surface. This frag will not be the one that falls behind a rock and gets lost if I can help it.

That sounds perfect. Pretty much what I do with my frags. I'm sure you know but SPS don't like it when they move/wobble from water movement or if a fish bumps into them.
