Is it normal it doesn't go into the sand? Or is it cause it's very small at the moment.

Cool. I haven't had new snails in a long time. First nassarius in years and also found a baby stomatella the other day. Then thought to myself man I haven't seen either of these in years. Hell I found a bumble bee snail the other day that I thought was dead for years lmao.

Most likely a nassarias snail but could also be a whelk. Whelks are carnivorous and will kill your clams and other snails. They are almost identical to the nassarias with only a slight difference at the opening.

I lost the first two clams I ever tried to keep and couldn't understand why until one night I happened to look at the tank with a light. I saw one of my "nassarias" snails on my clam but didn't think anything of it until the clam died a week or so later. Turns out, what was sold to me as a nassairus snail was actually a whelk and it had been eating my clams.

Most likely it's a nassarius but it never hurts to check.
