Glad to see the Shutterbugs forum. I know a lot of us are getting into photography as an extension of this hobby.

Just curious, what photo gear do you have? I'll start:

I have a Canon D300 (digital rebel) with 18-55mm kit lens, and Tamron 28-200mm - next I'll add a flash.

Sony 828. I have only the cir-polarizer and UV filter on my lens. I also have the high intensity flash.

Out of curiousity, does anyone know of a way to change out the bulb in a camera without having to send it off to the manufacturer??

No, but if you don't want to send it off, you could always take it to Houston Camera Exchange.

Oh yeah, I also have a UV filter, and plan to get a polarizing filter. I also just got a manfrotto monopod and a camera back pack by Roots (a Canadian manufacturer - a great little bag for the price)

Kim, what camera did you have at the frag swap? (was it a Nikon slr?)

It was the Sony...

The only reason I don't want to send it off is because it takes 6 weeks and it is the only camera I have. If I could afford a back-up I would send it off.

We have a Sony P5, and IMO it stinks. Worst camera purchase I've ever made. We bought it because of the small size, but you definitely compromise picture quality. Our old Kodak 1.3 MP camera took better pictures than this 3.2 MP Sony.

We are shopping for a new one now, and are leaning towards the Kodak DX7590. My wife's father and sister both have the previous model (DX6490) and love it, and we have been very impressed with the pictures they turn out. We were very happy with our previous Kodak camera, so we thought it would be worth a shot.

There are only 2 things about the camera that bug me - it doesn't have a manual white balance setting, and it doesn't have image stabilization, which could be useful with the 10x optical zoom. I'm sure I can live without the image stabilization (that feature wasn't even available when I was minoring in photography in college), but I wonder if the white balance will be an issue when taking tank shots. The auto white balance on this camera is supposed to be one of the best, so maybe that will work good enough. And there's always Photoshop if it doesn't.

Has anyone here used this camera for reef photography?

I just bought the 6.1 MP Kodak DX7630. I like the fact you can add a macro or telephoto lens at a decent price (not quite the SLR....but hey). With all the features it offers you have a good deal of control of every shot you take. The video this thing takes is crisp and clear. I'm still getting used to it and I by far am no pro but even I can take decent pics with this camera.

Just bought a Canon D20 ... still learning how to use some of the function ... will invest in a better lens then the one that came with it. Will also add UV and poloraized filter in the near future.

Saberry, can you send me that site where you bought the bag from? Thanks.

I've got an Olympus 5050 zoom. I've got a couple filters for it that I never use, and a couple extra lenses, that very rarely get used. It's not an slr, so the lenses don't help that much. There are a couple that I would like for this camera, but the two of them would cost me nearly $500, which is a good amount of money to put towards a dSLR.

Mikester,

Check out the forums on www.dpreview.com. It looks like they didn't do a full review for the camera, but if you ask in the kodak forums I'm sure that folks will be able to give you some feedback on it.
I personally like to be able to change my white balance setting, but some folks on another fish board are getting pretty good results with the standard settings on their nikons, so you might find a standard setting on the kodak that will get you pics that you'll be happy with.

Canon Powershot A75

Really, really, really like this camera. And under 200 bucks too!

Here are some test shots with the camera:

~~edit: was the photo size requirement lowered? From 600 x 800 to 600 x 450?

Actually, when I bought my 5050, the other camera I was considering was the nikon 5700...The underwater housing is what made my decision for me. The cheapest housing I could find for the nikon was about the same as the camer $800. Olympus Japan makes housings for a lot of the olympus cameras, and mine only cost me $165. It made choosing between the two cameras pretty easy.

Here is a pic I took with the Kodak DX7630 along with the Bower close up lens kit.
