Those are super cool. I've tried them in the past from LA but could never get one to last past 6 months. Proper acclimation is supposed to be the key and after changing hands so many times from the collector to your tank, its very difficult.

What mine did was slowly dissolve. Small pits would form that just grew. Then, an arm would fall off. The starfish would still be moving as if nothing was wrong. But over time, they just slowly fell apart. And I'm sure the improper acclimation starts at the collecting facility.

so i got greedy and went and bought another one of these, this time i took the advice of acclimation and let it drip for almost 2hrs. I lived well for about 5 days but now its starting to fall apart. The one i just floated is still doing great now after a couple of weeks.

is there any point in leaving the one falling apart in the tank? will it come back or is it just dumping waste in my tank now?

I'd pull it.

Add me to the list of people who lost one of these. I posted pictures on FB in the original post that Dennis made advertising them.

so i think where i messed up is with the drip, the first one i floated and is still doing great a month later, the second one got the drip treatment for 2hrs but didnt get a heater in the bucket. 2hrs dripping in a bucket in a house thats 70 degrees and then dropping it in the tank at 78... i think this one is totally my bad!
